Now even the lawyers are being fired. White & Case lets 70 go.
And now for some encouraging words. There are about 900 rural electric cooperative electric companies. Their customers have been without broadband. Now, IBM has worked out a deal to use the power lines to get broadband into these homes. This is a peanuts deal for IBM, less than $10 million. But it says volumes about how companies search for revenues. The first deal is for 13 cooperatives in seven states so expansion is a possibility. As the WSJ reported this morning: ” The standard power lines are used to carry a radio-frequency signal in the magnetic field that surrounds the wires. The signal is amplified by low priced repeater boxes clamped on the lines. …..a special modem that is plugged into the wall is supplied….pricing starts at $29.95 a month.” I am encouraged by innovation and this qualifies.
