Utility company earnings are seemingly exploding. Yes, they are beating already depressed comparisons but they are up. Big. And shares are responding to the good news. When was the last time you saw a utility stock up more than 5% in one day? Look at EP (+12%), AES (+12%). Admittedly, these are lower quality operations but take a look at these: FPL+2%, D +1%, ED +1%. Of course, the market is up big time today and utilities are joining the party. I am moving some profits in industrials and financials to the utilities. I bought more FPL and I already own the preferred, FPLprF, pretty big.
Another way to play it is through ETFs: Utility ETFs By Expense, Dividend Yield, Diversification, and …
BTW, IBM and Apple are not partying along with the general market. Tech is weak for the second day and am wondering how the rally continues without it.
