- A disappointing morning as there appears to be little follow through of yesterday’s rally.
- Oil is up as is gold, both modestly.
- Reading the newspapers recently is a depressing event. There is very little good news apart from Tiger Woods returning to the tour.
- Dividends are being slashed everywhere. JP Morgan and Allstate come to mind,
- A higher percentage of gold buyers are taking delivery. Some 4% of gold contracts are actually being shipped to homes and offices. Brinks is doing a brisk business.
- Gold coin dealers are almost out of supply.
- You can’t even rely upon jelly. Smuckers’ stock is down 7%, pre-opening, as it’s earnings disappoint due to a dearth peanut butter sales.
- Solar stocks getting crushed as First Solar announces weak demand.
- Las Vegas implodes as Wynne and others admit to lower take.
- The stimulus is already being felt. This morning the governor of North Carolina announced that about $400 million will be used to improve roads and bridges. It is estimated that about 14,000 will be hired.
